Paris Hilton has joined the picket line of the BBC journalists striking in defence of local news.

BBC journalists covering radio, TV and online news are currently in the middle of a planned 24-hour strike in protest against plans to cut local radio, which would mean just 40 hours of guaranteed weekly programming, according to the National Union of Journalists.

As NUJ members walked out of stations across the country, one picket line at BBC headquarters in London were met with a very surprise guest – heiress Paris.

The star, who recently welcomed her first child, was at the building having appeared on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour to promote her new book Paris: The Memoir.

Following the interview, she was seen chatting to strikers and appeared to be offered a flag by one woman, with the NUJ Twitter account later offering to send her a flag ‘to help you show solidarity with journalists on strike.’

Paris was snapped talking to striking journalists, with one person sharing a photo online jokingly referring to her as ‘Comrade Paris Hilton.’

The star has been doing the media rounds in the capital to promote her memoir, having also appeared on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

She was seen wearing a shimmering navy dress and held her book in her hand as she headed out of the building, her blonde locks in loose waves past her shoulders.

The Stars Are Blind singer also took a minute to sign autographs for fans waiting outside.

Her new memoir details every aspect of her life, including reflecting on the infamous sex tape released against her will by her ex boyfriend, which made headlines around the world and led to her being relentlessly mocked, including by animated series South Park.

In the memoir, the 42-year-old writes that she doesn’t ‘remember that much’ about the night in question, and said that she felt pressure to go through with it – before the clip was ‘released and monetized against’ her will.
