For some time a psychologist had been following her to treat the post-natal depression she suffered after the birth of her daughter Perla, ten months ago. Yesterday Carola Finatti, 34 years old, was found by her husband in the bathroom of her house, in Nole Canavese, in the province of Turin, wounded in the neck and with a kitchen knife next to her. In the tub there was Perla, now lifeless.

Carola and Antonio Parrinello, parents of little Perla

He, Antonio Parrinello, 36 years old, immediately called for help and on the phone with 118 he desperately tried to resuscitate the little girl, but there was nothing left to do. Now Carola is hospitalized at Molinette in Turin. While he murmured to the police: “We’ve been together for eighteen years, we really wanted Perla, our little girl.” But the soldiers have little doubt about what happened today, in the early afternoon, in that building in Via Don Grazioli, in the center of the town: Carola Finatti drowned her daughter and then tried to kill herself.

The man, returning from work at lunchtime, found all the doors closed except for one window through which he managed to enter. In the bathroom he found himself in front of the little girl who had drowned in the tub: next to her was his wife, injured after inflicting some cuts with a knife taken from the kitchen. The woman, who appeared almost absent, was transported by air ambulance to the Molinette hospital in Turin where she is being guarded: she underwent surgery to reduce a cut in the throat area, her prognosis is reserved for now.

From the first investigations and from her husband’s story, it emerged that Carola Finatti had an appointment, just this afternoon, with a psychologist: according to what we learned from investigative sources she had in fact shown mental problems since the first months after Perla’s birth and for this reason she was followed by a specialist.

In the house the Turin carabinieri, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor of Ivrea Elena Parato who carried out an inspection of the building, found numerous notes written by Carola Finatti: they are now examining them together with the couple’s phones to understand if the woman had sent messages that could somehow announce the tragedy.

A drama that affects the entire town of Nole, less than seven thousand inhabitants in the lower Canavese area, thirty kilometers from Turin. The mayor, Luca Francesco Bertino, who knows that family well, interprets this anguish: “It is an immense tragedy that shocks the whole community – says Bertino, who immediately went to the scene of the tragedy – I live not far away, I know them, a beautiful family: they are very good kids who grew up here in Nole, they have been together for a long time and they wanted that little girl so much – he adds – I know that they have never been left alone”.
