‘No plans’ for bank holiday if England Lionesses win World Cup final
The Metro says There are no plans to give Brits a bank holiday to celebrate if England wins the Women’s World Cup on Sunday, the government has said.
Figures including Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Sir Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, are among those calling for people to get a day off in the event of the Lionesses beating Spain in the final.
It would be the first time an English national team has lifted a World Cup for 57 years.
But in a comment to the BBC this evening, a government spokesperson said: ‘The current pattern of public and bank holidays is well established and there are no plans to change this.’
