Dancing On Ice’s Nile Wilson tried a risky move during Sunday night’s final and became the first male to ever attempt the ‘headbanger’ on the show.
The Olympic gymnast, 27, and his skating partner Olivia Smart kicked off the show’s final in a dramatic fashion as they secured a perfect 40 with their pirate-inspired routine.
Nile showed off his gymnastic abilities as he performed a handstand on parallel bars suspended in the air as well as the infamously difficult headbanger – the first time a male celebrity has attempted the move.
After the performance, he said it was an ‘honour’ to have the routine choreographed by judges and former Olympic champion skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
Reflecting on the routine, judge Christopher said: ‘I’m speechless almost. We wanted to capitalise on his gymnastic skills and his athleticism and I think he did that and I’ve always wanted to see someone swing on a rope onto the ice.’
Ashley Banjo chimed in next with an outpouring of praise for the contestant: ‘After the week that I know you’ve had and the sort of competition you’ve had, to pull that routine off clearly, in this moment live, that’s a feat in itself’.

Jayne added that she felt the star definitely deserved a 10 as she revealed it was the best she had seen him perform the routine.
‘The was just so much fun,’ Nile shared as he said it was great to incorporate his gymnastic skills into his final routine with the programme.
Fans online reacted to the moment and offered words of encouragement for the competitor as he skates for the trophy.
