NHS staff describe official claims that hospitals can manage with Covid situation as ‘total crap’
The i says hospitals around the UK are seeing record daily attendances in A&E, with staff describing claims from scientists, senior health figures and the Government that trusts “will manage” once remaining lockdown restrictions are lifted as “total crap”.
David Hartin, a consultant in emergency medicine at The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust said his “middle of the road, mid-sized district general hospital” emergency department exceeded its record 24-hour attendances by more than 10 per cent this week. When the department opened in 2008, average attendance was between 170 and 180 patients but 384 people were seen on Monday.
