New TFL rules for London drivers 2022 with higher fines
TfL will be handing out fines of £160 for drivers caught breaking the rules on London’s “red route” roads. The new rules come into effect on January 17 on the TfL-managed roads.
Fines can be issued for things such as blocking a yellow box junction or driving in bus lanes. According to TfL the hiked up fines will improve road safety and reduce congestion, whilst helping to improve air quality.
London’s “red routes” makes up five per cent of the Capital’s roads but carry 30 per cent of London’s traffic while accounting for 37 per cent of road traffic deaths in the capital.
London’s red routes also see 57 per cent higher pollution than average roads.
You’re in luck if you are fined however, providing you pay within 14 days of being issued, your fine will be reduced to £80. If you don’t pay within 28 days you’ll see a fine of £240.
The new increased prices could see TfL generate as much as £20 million over the next two years.
