Netflix fans are binge-watching ‘unbelievable’ thriller soaring up the chart
Netflix viewers are rushing to binge a British thriller series about a woman who faces a romance scam.
First hitting screens last year on Sky, Love Rat stars Coronation Street’s Sally Lindsay as Emma, a woman dreaming of a new start after her divorce from Pete, played by Neil Morrissey.
Estranged from her daughter, she decides to escape her dull life and travel to Cyprus for a holiday.
Once she arrives she quickly forms a connection with Niko (Gerald Kyd), the handsome, wealthy owner of the hotel.
It’s been teased of the four-part series: ‘A recently divorced woman enjoys a whirlwind romance with a charming hotel proprietor on Cyprus when she discovers he is not who he seems, embarking on a dangerous mission to get her money back.

‘Starting out as an escapist fantasy in the sun, Love Rat transforms into a terrifying psychological thriller.’
After the series was released, many fans shared their thoughts online.
‘I decided to give it a go and I’m so glad I did. When you first watch episode one you think it’s going to be about a general love rat romance on holiday stealing money etc but it then becomes so much more! There’s a big twist!’ user chelsea-30472 posted on IMDB.
‘I thoroughly enjoyed it, not often these days do I binge watch a show. Full of twists and turns, expect the unexpected, it’s loaded with suspense, and keeps you guessing until the very end,’ Sleepin_Dragon shared.
‘At first glance it appears to be a series which delves into the well-known and most common dilemma many vulnerable individuals fall victim too; that is the romance scammers. However, it then becomes apparent there’s more to the situation than meets the eye. I watched in one sitting,’ katgreene-32840 added.
This week the series was added to Netflix, where it’s soared up the charts and is currently the third most watched programme on the streaming service in the UK.
Several people have since urged others to tune in too.
Speaking ahead of the show’s release last year, Sally spoke about the devastating deception her character faces.
‘Stealing your money is horrific, but stealing your heart is unforgivable. The scam is like an emotional theft. It’s about manipulation. Nico’s lit fires in her and unleashed something that hasn’t been there for years and suddenly, he’s gone. Then it gets very twisty!’ she told WhattoWatch.
Love Rat is streaming on Netflix.
