Today’s world news briefing is dominated by Netanyahu, Starmer and war criminals. From Netanyahu’s rants of the ‘arrest warrant antisemitic’ to his chances of escaping prosecution at home and abroad, we bring you the inside scoop of what the politicians and strategists are doing behind the scenes.
World News Briefing – Quick Links
Just before we put the spotlight on Netanyahu, a quick mention to the war in Ukraine, A lot is being made of this ‘long range missiles’ but there is a red line that neither party will cross. However, it does look like the Biden administration is keen to use as much ammo as possible before he leaves office, as his son’s affiliated company is the one making the money.
Divisions have crept in over the ICC arrest warrant
Anyway on to the war criminals we can see the divisions have started to creep in over the ICC arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, and so many of the 124 member nations have said they will honour the rule of law and arrest Netanyahu if he comes to their country, but the British PM has been particularly cagey, which is why we led with the headline ‘Starmer and war criminals’.
Starmer and war criminals
He and his cabinet are determined to find a loophole, not only because they are ‘bought and paid for’ by the Israeli genocidal regime, but significantly because Starmer has repeatedly been defending the Israeli’s by suggesting ‘they have not met the criteria of genocide’, during PMQs
Either way it is unlikely Netanyahu will travel to the UK but pressure from the left side of the labour party and the Independents in parliament are mounting. He has defied public opinion and is protected by his huge majority.
However, this will be a watershed moment for Starmer, as a former barrister, chomping at the success of his legal accomplishments, but if he takes a stance which is perceived as ‘against the rule of law‘ he will lose even more credibility.
The PM’s spokesman makes a statement
No 10 has not been clinical in its answers but are instead playing it safe. Asked whether Netanyahu would be detained if he entered the UK, the prime minister’s official spokesman refused to comment on “hypotheticals”.
A No 10 spokesman refused to comment on the specific case but said the government would fulfil its “legal obligations”.
Netanyahu is not safe at home or abroad
Benjamin Netanyahu is not safe at home or abroad, EU nations, Canada and most members have unequivocally said they will arrest him if he comes to their country. He knows his fate, he is prolonging the war to delay his inevitable, or dreaming that he is able to achieve ‘a victory so great’ that it will pardon his crimes.
But what will be interesting, is how his political opponents capitalise on this situation, and as soon as they start to make deals, to replace him, inevitably the discussion of handing him over to the ICJ will come up, like Serbia did to Milosovic, the western allies will jump at the opportunity to re-build some form of credibility.
Netanyahu will be hoping the US comes to his aid
Netanyahu will be hoping the US comes to his aid and provide a safe haven, they have so far and denounced the International Criminal court’s authority, since it is not signed up member (for obvious reasons).
US President Joe Biden mumbled that the arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister “outrageous… there is no equivalence – none – between Israel and Hamas. We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security.”
The US Senator, Tom Cotton has threatened to INVADE the NETHERLANDS because the International Criminal Court issued an ARREST WARRANT against Netanyahu and Gallant!
The Key Takeaways from this
The key takeaways from this, if hypothetically, Netanyahu does come to the UK and is arrested, then by the rules of engagement, that will be act of war against Israel because leaders have what is called ‘head of State immunity’ which is broader than diplomatic immunity and as such any breach of that immunity, warranted or unwarranted is an act of war.
The British Prime Minister is deliberately obfuscating this issue, for a number of reasons, but significantly, if he does make the admission that Britain must arrest him. This leads to his second conundrum; how can he possibly arm and support Netanyahu – ‘a war criminal’ with the ongoing genocide in Gaza. That would be the very definition of aiding and abetting, which would make starmer complicit in Genocide.
A word of caution, although the majority of EU nations, have said they would honour the warrant, in most cases it is just lip service, because the chances of Netanyahu actually travelling to any of these countries is very slim.
Israel’s biggest allies are the Britain the US, France and Germany and these four have enabled the genocide.
The sudden rise in suspicious packages in the UK
The UK has had three suspicious packages disrupt a day of travelling for commuters and holiday makers. Gatwick airport has seen the arrest of two men and in the Chester a bus station had to be evacuated due to a bomb scare.
There was a third package found in London earlier in the day, which forced London Police, at the U.S. Embassy in London, to carry out a controlled explosion of a suspicious package.
Israeli Genocide in Gaza
At least 38 people were killed across the Gaza Strip since dawn, that is in one day in the ongoing siege of Palestine.
Health officials in Gaza warned all hospitals will have to stop or reduce services “within 48 hours” because of a lack of fuel, accusing Israel of blocking its entry.
Protests against Israel’s genocide in Gaza have not subsided, in fact more and more people are changing their minds and seeing this ‘conflict’ for what it is, a genocide. They may not get as much media coverage as before, as MSM feel that it empowers the protesters.
The key takeaway here is, like, comment, share and don’t stop protesting and don’t stop sharing, supporting the Independent candidates in Parliament is essential to holding the Government to account.
The head of the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an “immediate end” to fighting at Gaza’s besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital after an Israeli drone attacked the facility and wounded four medical staff and two patients.
Israel continues to bombard Lebanon
An eight-storey building was reportedly destroyed in the Israeli air strike on Beirut that has killed at least four people and injured more than 30. This is the fourth Israeli air strike this week targeting a central densely populated area of Beirut.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry has accused Israel of carrying out a “series of war crimes” in its targeted killing of medical staff and destruction of health facilities after Israeli air strikes killed a hospital director in the northeast of the country and five paramedics were slain in the south.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that 62 people were confirmed killed in attacks across the country in the previous 24-hour reporting period, while the director of a university hospital was killed in an air strike in the country’s Baalbek region.
The key takeaway here is, the death count is growing daily, it does not stop, it may sometimes not make the headlines in MSM but it Israel is pounding the region and these deaths are just the highlights, the real numbers are significantly worse.
