A bear that climbed a neighborhood tree got stuck and fell – to the safety of a tarp held but a crew of firefighters.
The bear went up a tree in the Mount Rose area near Reno, Nevada, prompting neighbors to call for help.
‘Today, Engine 12 and Truck 3 went to a bear-y interesting call!’ wrote the Reno Fire Department on Facebook on Wednesday. ‘Our crews assisted NDOW in getting a bear out of a tree using a ladder and salvage cover!’
Resident Keith Bohn recorded the scene, zooming in on the bear clinging to a tree trunk and clearly visible through the branches. Within about 20 minutes, the bear fell.
The bear did a flip in the air and landed right in the middle of a large red tarp held by more than half a dozen firefighters.
‘Wildlife personnel were on scene for a while to monitor the bear and tranquilize it if it came down on its own. It did not,’ said Bohn, according to FOX 29.
The video shows the firefighters carrying the bear on the tarp and loading it into a tube in a vehicle.
‘It was examined on-site, tagged and loaded into transport for later release in the Mount Rose area,’ Bohn said.
Firefighters said the bear had engaged in some nuisance behavior in the area recently and was ‘wanted’.
