Molly-Mae Hague ‘frustrated’ by Tommy Fury breakup theory after kiss
Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague shocked fans by splitting up in the summer of 2024 and surprised them once again with a shock reconciliation of sorts.
In blurry footage released last week, the former Love Island couple, both 25, looked to be having what seems to be a hot and heavy kiss at Man United player Luke Shaw’s Hogmanay party in Cheshire on December 31.
The Sun’s exclusive footage suggested that the pair, who share daughter Bambi, may have rekindled after news of their breakup, which left fans heartbroken back in August.
Their complicated relationship has led to some speculation their initial breakup was a publicity stunt, with some people sharing their theories online.
Speaking at the launch of her new fly-on-the-wall Prime Video documentary series Molly-Mae: Behind It All – which will launch on Friday, the star said how frustrating this discourse can be.
‘I think that for me, above everything, has been the most frustrating part, because I actually say in the documentary, “I wish it was a publicity stunt”, because it’d be a lot easier,’ she said at the event attended by Metro.
‘Because going through all of this with the turmoil of a break-up has been incredibly hard, to have those comments, and I do see the comments, I see all of them.
‘People say, “oh, this has obviously just been done for long term brand or a publicity stunt”, that is very painful, because it’s real life.
‘Tommy and I have a baby together, and it’s very, very real, and it’s a really hard thing that we’ve both gone through the last six months.
‘I wish it wasn’t, because it would have been a lot easier, but it isn’t.
‘I think this documentary will clear up any impressions of that, you see the real side to it, it’s kind of like you’re a fly on the wall.
‘And like I say, I think people are going to be quite, not shocked, but I think they’ll be quite surprised by how honest we’ve been.’
The star, who runs her own fashion brand Maebe, also addressed the pictures of her seemingly kissing Tommy on New Year’s Eve.
Asked about the images, she replied: ‘We are navigating a really complicated time in both of our lives, in the public eye, and I think this is a whole new territory for me.
‘Obviously my relationship has always been in the public eye, but to deal with this break-up with millions of eyes watching, it is hard, and it is complicated.
‘And I think the reason why I don’t comment on it, and why I don’t speak about it on my YouTube, or publicly is because simply, we are both navigating it ourselves, and we both are figuring it out as adults and as parents, we’re doing the best we can.
‘But I really do feel like the documentary is going to answer a lot of questions, and we also do touch on that situation, because I think the last thing I want is any confusion, and I don’t ever want people to feel confused by what’s going on, so we will try to explain.’
Molly-Mae later joked that she felt the release of her documentary ‘should be given as a bank holiday’, saying she felt she owed her fans ‘honesty’ in the show as ‘that is my job, my life is online’.
She concluded: ‘It does discuss the break-up, and we’re very honest in what we share with the break-up, but it’s so much more than a break-up documentary.
‘It focuses on parts of my life that I haven’t really delved into before.
‘At the minute, we’re still filming, but we touch on lots of stuff like motherhood, we talk about body confidence, running my two businesses, and just doing all of that while having a two-year-old and navigating through a break-up has been a really challenging time.’
Aside from a few cameos in Netflix show At Home with the Furys, Molly-Mae has largely stayed away from TV following her time on Love Island six years ago. Molly-Mae decided it wasn’t her avenue but ultimately changed her mind because she wanted to document something important to her. In September, Molly-Mae launched Maebe and hopes it will be ‘an empire’ so hopes the early footage of the business being built will become invaluable to her.
On the same day as the event, an interview with Tommy was released, in which he spoke about the real reason for their split. Tommy confessed his mental health had been ‘in the pan’ after his boxing injury put his career on hold, and he became addicted to alcohol.
‘There’s been so much s**t in the papers every single day for the past six months: “Cheater, cheater, cheater; he slept with me; he slept with this girl”. Complete and utter b*****ks. And you can ask Molly herself’.
Tommy continued to Men’s Health: ‘The reason why me and Molly broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore.
‘It kills me to say it, [but] it’s true, I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink, and it is what it is. People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I’ve got mine to bear.’
The pair met on Love Island in 2019 and went on to have a baby together, Bambi Fury, and get engaged, seeming to all the world to be a perfect couple.
In the wake of the split, Tommy denied allegations of cheating after widespread speculation while influencer Molly-Mae focused her attention on Maebe.
‘All I ever wanted was to get married. Suddenly overnight, every part of my life changed,’ Molly-Mae said in an emotional trailer for the Prime Video show.
Adding: ‘The last couple months have been the worst couple months of my life.’
And in a scene from the show itself she admits she ‘is angry [with Tommy] and very hurt’.
The voiceover continues: ‘Sometimes it really hits you that I’m in this alone now,’ as we see her getting emotional.
After the pair’s New Year’s kiss sent rumours swirling, a source told The Sun: ‘Things are still delicate but they’ve had some long, difficult conversations over the past few weeks and, finally, are in a great place.
‘Molly-Mae decided to invite Tommy fairly last minute. It was all very low-key.’
The source went on to say that the pair seemed to be flirting throughout the party and clearly remain attracted to each other, even going so far as to say they were ‘all over each other.’
They continued, explaining that Molly-Mae isn’t yet ready to make a reunion official has she is still hurt from events over the past six months.
Fans online seem divided about the news, with some celebrating the apparent reunion while others continue to suspect that Molly-Mae was wronged in some way and shouldn’t take Tommy back.
X user @cxxxc807 was not surprised, writing: ‘They have a kid she was going to get married it was bound to happen.’
But @realityjanelle thinks Molly-Mae deserves better, posting: ‘NOOOOO Molly stand up.’
@FeeteerealityX shared a similar sentiment: ‘Oh this is beyond embarrassing…’
@Queenie_2312 just seemed exasperated, writing: ‘All that for them to get back together…’
But some seemed happier for the couple, with @itsbravobruh posting:
‘I can’t even be mad. She loves that man and she’ll be fine regardless.’
@BabyM07 agreed: ‘I love them together, good if they make it work.’
Episodes one to three of Molly-Mae: Behind It All are to launch exclusively on Prime Video on January 17, with the last three episodes dropping in spring 2025.
