Met Office issues risk-of-death warning: Turning up the heat

    June 24, 2024
The Metro front page, UK Papers

“Turning up the heat,” writes the Metro as it reports Britain could see its first 30C heatwave of the summer this week. The paper reports that the Met Office has issued a yellow heat alert over increased risk of death for vulnerable people across England – unless you are in the north-east. The rising temperature could put increased pressure on the NHS, Metro says, adding that the strongest warnings have been issued for the East Midlands, south-east and the east of England.

Londoners to bask in highest temperatures of 2024 as UK hit with heat health alert warnings

    • The UK’s first 30°C heatwave has brought the perfect sunny weather for beach trips and festival weekends. But scorching heats from June 24 to June 27 increase the risk of death among vulnerable people, according to the Met Office and UK Health Security Agency. As a result, a yellow heat-health alert has been issued in all but one region of England due to the impact this may have across the health and social care sector. Grainy CCTV ‘could be Jay Slater’ filmed 10 hours after his phone went off

    • There is some hope a grainy CCTV image could show missing Jay Slater’s location on Monday evening, 10 hours after his mobile phone last pinged. No distinct features can be made out, but it shows what looks like a man walking near where someone claims to have seen Jay around that time. A source close to the family said: ‘It looks like him and is certainly a man’s shape but we just don’t know.’ [https://metro.co.uk/2024/06/24/madeleine-mccann-investigator-tells-missing-jay-slaters-family-give-three-days-21091150/?ico=trending-module_category_news_item-0]

Footage shows seawater pouring down streets in the port town of Puerto Alcudia following after Wednesday night’s freak wave swallowed up adjacent beaches. Tourists were seen swerving out of the way to avoid getting soaked and potentially knocked over by the strong current.
