Meta owned apps hit by outage
WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram experienced a temporary outage due to a significant disruption at Meta, their parent company.
Late on Wednesday, thousands of users encountered difficulties accessing these platforms.
While Meta’s status page indicates that most issues have been resolved, some of its business and messaging services are still experiencing significant disruptions.
The problems began around 19:00 BST. Downdetector, a website performance monitoring service, recorded approximately 82,000 issues with WhatsApp at 19:25 BST, though an hour later, the problem was largely resolved.
Instagram users reported around 3,700 outages at 19:20 BST, with disruptions persisting for several hours. Similarly, Facebook users reported issues around the same time, with 1,840 outages noted at 19:23 BST.
The technical glitch wasn’t limited to the UK. Reuters stated that around 5,000 individuals also encountered problems with Instagram in the United States. At its peak, approximately 24,000 WhatsApp users were affected.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp acknowledged the issues, stating, “We know some people are experiencing issues right now. We’re working on restoring full functionality as quickly as possible.”
Downdetector recorded nearly 3,500 user reports in India and over 7,000 in Brazil regarding problems with WhatsApp.
