Meghan Markle “never intended” for those at the centre of the royal racism row to be named publicly, insiders have said.
Sources close to the Duchess of Sussex have told the Daily Telegraph that her letters to King Charles were “not leaked to Mr [Omid] Scobie by anyone in her camp”, after the names of those accused of making comments about the colour of Prince Archie’s skin before he was born were published in the Dutch translation of the royal author’s latest book Endgame.
In Meghan’s and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, the couple alleged that there had been “concerns and conversations” about how dark Archie’s skin might be when she was still pregnant. The Duchess and the King then spoke about the incident via letter, with details of the contents of those letters making their way into Mr Scobie’s book.
Although the author said he had been prohibited from publishing the names in the English version of Endgame, they were published in the Netherlands, with copies of the book later being pulled from sale.

Mr Scobie said he has spoken to numerous sources close to the Sussexes in order to gather information for Endgame, however he has always denied having a relationship with the couple themselves.
He also denied any responsibility for the publication of the names in the Netherlands, instead putting it down to a “translation error”.
Harry and Meghan were forced to admit in the past that they indirectly contributed to the previous book co-authored by Mr Scobie, 2020’s Finding Freedom, however they appear to have distanced themselves from his latest release.

During his appearance on BBC Newsnight on Thursday night, Mr Scobie refused to apologise to those named in the race row, as he once again swore he was not to blame for the leak.
However Saskia Peeters, the woman who translated the book from English into Dutch, said the names were in the manuscript, as she told the MailOnline: “As a translator, I translate what is in front of me.
“The names of the royals were there in black and white. I did not add them. I just did what I was paid to do and that was translate the book from English into Dutch.”
King Charles has been advised to rise above the scandal (Image: Getty)
A royal expert has advised that the King will not dignify this scandal with a response, as Pauline Maclaran, Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, University of London, described the book as a “melodrama”.
She told Express.co.uk: “They [the Firm] will rise above it. The Queen (Elizabeth II) issued a statement after Harry and Meghan first made the claim in their interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“Harry himself has tried to distance himself from those remarks by saying the Royal Family is not racist. He said there may be some unconscious bias. Harry and Meghan’s documentary did not refer [to the allegation]. They have obviously tried to put it behind them. Omid Scobie is just resurrecting all this.”
