Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea still want to sign another forward despite Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson’s heroics against Luton Town.
Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Friday night – the first victory of the Pochettino era – with Sterling scoring twice before setting up Jackson for his first Blues goal.
The two forwards put on a great show against the Hatters, just as they did last weekend in the defeat at West Ham.
Pochettino had recently stated that he was hoping to sign a forward and a goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closes next week – with keeper Djorde Petrovic now on the verge of sealing a move to west London.
But with Sterling and Jackson looking good and the likes of Armando Broja, Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk still to come back from injury, a new forward may not be requred after all.
That is not the opinion of the Argentine though, who said his transfer plans have not altered and he wants another forward who can ‘provide the team with good balance’.
‘Like last week, when we lose the game, it [transfer plans] is not going to change,’ the manager said in his post-match press conference.
‘We work, the result today was positive, and still we are talking. We’d like a keeper and an offensive player more, of the right profile. We are working to find this profile that I think we need.
‘We cannot change if we lose or win, it’s what we need to provide the team with good balance. Still we need one offensive player more if it is possible to achieve what we want.
‘If not, we are not just going to bring a player in if he’s not the right profile. To only say yes, we have another offensive player, we need to find the profile.’

Asked what the ‘right profile’ was, he added: ‘A different profile, can play striker or at the side or behind, we will see.
‘In the next few days we will take some decisions.’
Sterling was full of praise for his manager post-match, explaining how he had got back to his best under his new coach after a difficult season under Graham Potter.
