Marcus Rashford sends message to Man Utd over Barcelona transfer issue | Football
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is ready to take a pay cut in order to make the move to Barcelona, according to reports.
Several clubs have already held talks to sign Rashford, who publicly stated in December that he is looking to leave Old Trafford in order to find a ‘new challenge’.
Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, has travelled to Italy this month to negotiate with AC Milan but an agreement has not been reached with the Serie A club.
Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have also expressed an interest, while in the Premier League, West Ham have explored the possibility of signing Rashford, although they appear to have moved on to different attacking targets in Ajax’s Brian Brobbey and RB Leipzig’s Andre Silva.
Rashford has already turned down the chance to join the Saudi Pro League as he wants to remain in Europe to improve his chances of winning back his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
It’s understood that Rashford’s preferred destination is Barcelona but United are insisting that any loan deal would require a club to cover over half of the forward’s £325,000-a-week salary.
According to the Daily Star, Rashford is willing to sacrifice part of his salary in order to make a switch to Barcelona happen.
Barcelona’s precarious financial state meant that they struggled to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor this month, and United would need to be flexible in order for Rashford to join the Catalan club.
Speaking this week, Barca’s sporting director, Deco, insisted that the club remain open to new signings.
‘We have our priorities and if we can renew the contracts of the players we have now and if we can bring in other reinforcements, that would always be welcome,’ he said.
‘But this is not the time to talk about that. I think it is the time to focus on the day-to-day decisions we have to make.
‘The coach is happy with the squad we have, so any future decisions will be later.’
