Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori with the centre-back valued at around €40million (£34m), according to reports.
The Red Devils’ defensive options are currently limited with key centre-backs Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez out with injuries.
Raphael Varane returned to the starting XI for their 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich, but the Frenchman faces an uncertain future at the club.
Reports in the Guardian suggest that United would consider selling the 30-year-old in January, with Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia two potential destinations.
Should the Frenchman depart, United will likely move to bring in a replacement, with Tomori said to be high up on their wishlist according to Italian outlet MilanWeb.
Tomori has been a linchpin at the heart of Milan’s defence since he arrived in 2021, making over 100 appearances for the Italian giants in all competitions.
His latest eye-catching display came in the Champions League as the Serie A club beat Newcastle 2-1 to secure third spot in Group F.

The England international made a crucial goal-line interception to deny Miguel Almiron in the first half and such displays have attracted the interest of the senior hierarchy at Old Trafford.
However, despite their interest, it is unlikely that the Italian club will be willing to part with one of their prized assets during the season, with a move over the summer said to be more likely.
The Italian club have, instead, been looking to strengthen in central defence, with Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior linked with a January move away from north London.
