Netflix have officially dropped the first look for their new chilling true crime documentary Who Killed Jill Dando?

The former Crimewatch co-host was killed on the doorstep of her home in Fulham, south-west London, in a horrendous crime which remains unsolved, nearly 24 years later.

Dando, who was 37 years old when she died in April 1999, was shot once in the head, and her body was discovered soon after by a neighbour.

A local man, Barry George, was convicted and imprisoned for the murder, but after eight years in prison he was acquitted following an appeal and retrial.

In the latest trailer, viewers are shown footage of Dando at the height of her career.

‘The golden girl of British television murdered on her doorstep in broad daylight,’ says the voiceover after Dando’s fate is revealed.

A man who was wrongly accused of the her murder also speaks out.

‘It makes me angry that they’ve taken eight years of my life,’ he says.

Snippets of family, friends, journalists, investigators and lawyers are also featured in the promo, with each person giving their theory on what happened to Dando.

A release for the documentary states: ‘Netflix is in production on a documentary series about the life and tragic death of one of Britain’s most famous and beloved television presenters, Jill Dando.

‘On the morning of 26th April1999, Jill Dando was killed outside her home in West London. Her murder became one of the most high profile and complex investigations in British history.

‘The multi-part series will blend archive, new research and revelatory interviews, to revisit Dando’s life, career, legacy and what would become one of the most notorious unsolved murders of the 20th century.’

In 2001, Barry George was convicted after being arrested on suspicion of murder of Dando.

He was given a life sentence at the time but was then acquitted and released after a retrial in 2008.

No-one else has ever been arrested or charged in connection with the crime and to this day the case remains unsolved, with Dando’s family having said they doubt her killer will ever be found.

Who Killed Jill Dando premiers on Netflix on Tuesday September 26.
