A man who lost his dad’s ashes following a nine-hour pub bender has been reunited with them thanks to a bin man.

Stan Blade wanted to take his late dad Stephen Jewitt around their beloved attractions at Southend Pier for one last time.

But things took a turn for the worse when he bumped into some old pals and it descended into an enormous bar crawl on Saturday.

Stan looked everywhere for his dad’s remains but he was forced to issue a public appeal to find them.

He didn’t have to wait long for good news, however, as a bin man had found them on top of a bin on the seafront and informed police.

Mysteriously, the Tesco bag for life which the ashes were originally kept in is still at large.

Stan, 39, told Metro: ‘My dad would think he was famous if he was still here, he would have loved all this.

‘When Essex Police ring you automatically think uh oh what’s this about.

‘But the policeman then told me “heard you’ve been looking for your dad’s ashes.”

‘Turns out a bin man for the council had handed it into them after finding it placed on a bin on the seafront but no Tesco bag for life.’

Stan had launched an appeal to find his dad’s ashes on TikTok (Picture: Stan Blade/SWNS)

‘I’m very grateful to the man who handed them in and it is crazy my story has gone national,’ he said.

His step-mum Emma Hopkins was understandably furious as she had told Stan not to take the ashes out of her house.

‘I’ve f***ing had those ashes for 12 years,’ she told him.

‘I told you not to take them to the seafront. All you want to do is do things on TikTok.’

Stan said his step-mum has had a change of heart since learning the good news.

He said: ‘My step-mum has calmed down now and eventually I think she will see the funny side.

‘Me and my family are all very happy and grateful to get him back and no more outings.

‘Thanks again to everyone who helped.’
