Man dies in London after he was stabbed multiple times

A 21-year-old has died after he was stabbed repeatedly in a ‘brutal’ attack on a London street.

Robert Robinson, who lived locally, was named by police as the victim of the murder which happened at roughly 10.30pm on Thursday.

Despite the efforts of emergency service workers, Mr Robinson sadly died at the scene at Carteret Way in Deptford.

    His family have been informed.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder, with a 50-year-old man released on bail, while a 44-year-old remains in custody.

Speaking with News Shopper, one local woman said she was ‘not really surprised’ to see news of a fatal crime.

‘There’s always been stabbings in this estate. It’s just the norm these days in London, isn’t it,’ she said. ‘I wouldn’t want to be the mum of a young man growing up here, I’d be constantly scared.’

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding Mr Robinson’s death to come forward.

Results of a post-mortem conducted on Saturday show Mr Robinson died as the result of ‘multiple incision wounds.’

Detective Inspector Neil Tovey said: ‘This is a horrific crime committed by persons who chose to arm themselves with weapons and blight our communities.

‘A young man has died in brutal circumstances and his family are grieving.

‘We need to piece together the events which led to the attack on Robert. The incident took place on a residential street, Carteret Way, at a time when many people are likely to have been at home.

‘I believe the local community hold the key to solving this crime, and any information, it doesn’t matter how small, may assist us in obtaining justice for Robert’s family.

‘If you captured any footage of the attack or the precursor events, we have opened an online portal where you can upload videos or images – and this can be completed anonymously if you wish.’

Mr Robinson’s death came just hours after another man, thought to also be in his 20s, died in a stabbing attack on Bell Street, next to Edgware Road underground station.

Before the end of April alone there had been almost 25 fatal stabbings so far this year in the UK’s capital, following a 16% increase in knife crime between 2022 and 2023.
