Man City make statement 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in Champions League thriller
Following Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Bayern Munich, boss Pep Guardiola said he felt “emotionally destroyed” as his team head ever closer to the Champions League semi-finals.
City have dominated the Premier League for years, and despite many incredible Champions League performances, they have yet to seal the win. For Pep, winning Europe’s elite club competition with Man City is the ultimate goal.
City came close to a Champions League win several times, including the 2021 season when they faced fellow English club Chelsea in the final.
Bayern is a quality opponent, yet they were simply overpowered by City’s force of will and all-around quality. City had to scrap for an hour, but once they hit their stride, they looked every inch a side capable of finally winning the Champions League.
Erling Haaland’s arrival was designed to ensure City got on the right side of the fine margins that have often thwarted them in the Champions League, and he did the job as creator and scorer as they opened up what is surely an unassailable advantage.
Last night’s game saw Man City looking like the complete package, one that could easily go on to win the Champions League. Haaland strikes fear into the opposition and his own drive for goals may prove to be the key that gives City the cutting edge.
City has been favourites for the Champions League before, and after this performance, they will be again.
