The UK has high hopes for Mae Muller at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest – and it looks like the pop sensation isn’t going to disappoint.

Ahead of the competition officially kicking off, fans were treated to a sneak peek at what the 25-year-old singer has up her sleeve when she performs her catchy tune I Wrote A Song.

From the sounds of it, and the photographs taken during her dress rehearsal, Mae is pulling out all the stops, with mesh-wearing dancers in tow.

Meanwhile, the live blog on Eurovision’s official website also providing some behind-the-scenes information about what the performance was like to watch… and apparently, it’s going to go ‘VERY big’ in Liverpool’s arena.

Being one of the ‘Big Five’ nations, the UK is automatically guaranteed a place in the grand final, with Mae scheduled to deliver the ‘closing song’ of the night.

‘Well, this is a LOT of fun,’ the description of the artist’s performance began.

‘Mae’s dressed in black trousers with a rather fabulous corset jacket, and starts the performance on a raised plinth in front of the LED wall.

‘It features huge pop art-style graphics that blend really cleverly with the live staging – there’s a section at the beginning where Mae’s face splits in two horizontally, so she’s literally inside her own head.’

Apparently, the staging gives Mae’s performance a ‘pop video quality’ which comes across ‘great’ live, and it’s suspected that ‘it will look even better on TV’.

While the performer is dressed in black from head to toe, her fabulous dancers are in red and black ensembles, and they put on a ‘VERy polished dance routine’ in the second half of the song.

I Wrote A Song is said to hvae a ‘big old pop banger finish’, and is already being tipped to be one of the songs from this year’s Eurovision ‘that we’re going to hear in bars all over Europe this summer’.

‘We already know that Mae is going to perform last in the Grand Final, and it’s hard to imagine a better closing song for a home crowd. This is going to go VERY big in the hall,’ the liveblog post concluded.
