Lucy Letby trial: Nurse injected babies with air, court told, she denies murder
Nurse Lucy Letby, 32, has been accused of murdering five baby boys and two girls and attempting to murder 10 other babies at Countess of Chester hospital.
On the first day of trial, the court heard there was a “significant rise” in the number of healthy babies dying and said a “poisoner was at work.”
Prosecutor Nick Johnson KC said Letby was a “constant malevolent presence” in the hospital’s neonatal unit.
Letby denies all 22 charges at Manchester Crown Court.
The court was told that she allegedly tried to kill one child three times, while another died as a result of being injected with air.
Mr Johnson said Letby sometimes injected babies with air and on other occasions insulin or milk was injected.
