Love Island Games drops explosive Maya Jama trailer – and teases tense betrayal

If Love Island and Gladiators had a baby then we’d imagine it would turn out something like Love Island Games, which begins November 1.

The spin-off of the traditional show by Peacock adds an extreme element to spice up the drama, and will be hosted by Maya Jama.

Rather than just spending their days just trying to form romantic connections and sunbathing, the contestants will also have to compete in physical challenges, with one couple winning $100,000 (a nice little pay rise from the UK’s usual £50,000 prize) at the end of the series.

The latest trailer gives us an insight into exactly what will go down in Fiji, which will put Love Island contestants from all around the world in the same villa for the first time.

Our UK representatives are Curtis Pritchard, Megan Barton-Hanson, Jack Fowler, Georgia Steel, Liberty Poole, Mike Boateng, Eyal Booker, Toby Aromolaran, and Scott van-der-Sluis. Social media presenter Maura Higgins (which could be a little awkward due to her romantic history with Curtis) will also be joining them on the tropical island.

There will be alumni from the American, Australian, French, German, and Swedish versions too.

Maya, 29, provides the voiceover for the trailer and informs us that there will be some ‘healthy competition’ while they get their ‘second chance at love’.

We get a first glimpse at the games which will be tackled in teams, as well as couples, and include jousting, contestants in mermaid tails struggling to climb a seaweed slide, and others popping giant balloons.

Some classics are back too (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it) – the contestants will be asked to rank each other in various categories, and the ‘two-faced’ choice seems to cause a stir and indulge in a good old-fashioned game of snog, marry, pie.

The series will also have an element of Ex on the Beach about it, as USA contestants Cely Vazquez and ex-Johnny Middlebrooks, as well as Australia’s winners Mitch Hibberd and Tina Provis, are reunited.

Not everyone is there for the same reason though, which causes tension. Liberty, 24, questioned the intentions of her fellow islanders: ‘Who’s thinking more about games? Who’s thinking more about connections?’

She’s certainly clear on what she’s after and stated ‘I’m here for love. I’m ready to find someone.’

One thing is for sure, the exciting franchise ‘full of twists and turns,’ is going to have plenty of tears, kissing, and stern words as the competition heats up. At one point Curtis, 27, seems to be told ‘Sneaking behind my back gives small d**k energy.’

‘It’s way more intense than I was expecting,’ noted Megan, 29. We can’t wait!

Love Island Games premieres on Wednesday November 1 on Peacock and will air on ITV at a later date.
