Liverpool have vowed to take the strongest action after launching an investigation into an incident that saw a bottle launched at Manchester United’s team bus this afternoon.

A video on social media appeared to show an object being thrown at United’s bus as it made its way to Anfield this afternoon.

The object rebounded, into an area where hordes of fans were waiting.

In a statement, Liverpool said they would take the strongest action – a lifetime ban – for any supporter found guilty of the attack.

‘Liverpool Football Club utterly condemns the actions that led to damage being caused to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon,’ the club said

‘We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police, to fully investigate and identify those responsible.

‘Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the club’s sanction process.’
