Lisandro Martinez says he’s ready to step into midfield to fill in for Casemiro during his four-match ban if Erik ten Hag sees fit.
The Brazilian will feature against Real Betis tonight before missing the next four domestic matches following his red card against Southampton on Sunday.
It was Casemiro’s second dismissal of the season and once he’s served the four-match ban he will have missed eight out of United’s last 16 domestic matches.
United countered Casemiro’s suspension in January with Scott McTominay partnering Christian Eriksen in midfield but the Dane is out of action for another month.
Donny van de Beek is also a long-term absentee, while Marcel Sabitzer has been struggling with injuries.
United are light in midfield but they’re well stocked in central defence, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all providing back-up to the first choice partnership of Raphael Varane and Martinez.

Martinez played in midfield under Erik ten Hag when he first joined Ajax and his blend of aggression and flair could fill the gap left by Casemiro.
And the Argentine says he’s happy to play in midfield, so long as that’s what Ten Hag wants to do.
We have many good midfielders and like I have always said in many interviews, I will play wherever the coach wants to use me,’ said Martinez.
‘I will always be available.’
