What are the facts?
- Lightyear is a spin-off of the Toy Story film series, serving as an origin story for the character Buzz Lightyear.
- The film had a $200m budget and on opening weekend bought in $85.6m – the film has so far underperformed at box office.
- The film was not released in various, mostly Muslim-majority, countries, which include Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates, due to a scene featuring a same-sex kiss between two charachers.
- The scene was initially cut from the film in mid-March 2022, but following Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill and the internal polarizing uproar it caused within Disney, the scene was reinstated.
