Lidl launches toy bank to help families struggling this Christmas

As times get harder, the financial pressure around Christmas only builds.

But Lidl is keen to help struggling families take the weight of toys off their minds, as it’s now launched a nationwide donation drive.

Research shows that after food, toys are what people need the most this time of year.

In partnership with Neighbourly, local communities will be helped over the festive period through toy banks from November 3.

In terms of the way it works, customers will be able to drop off new and unopened toys and games – which will then be gifted to children that need support in their local area.

Donations can be anything, from a small stocking filler to something bigger.

The supermarket says sought-after items include toys, games, books, puzzles, and arts and crafts, for a range of ages.

Once donations are made, local charities will collect them as part of Lidl’s ‘Feed it Back’ scheme, then they’ll be distributed.

The supermarket will also donate £250,000 to charities during the festive period, with half of that going to the toy bank initiative, along with food.

Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, said: ‘Our latest community survey has highlighted the financial strain that many families are facing this winter.

‘With local charities seeing a drop in both food and financial donations, any support that Lidl customers can give is going to be critical.

‘For many families, Christmas gifts will be something they will struggle to afford, so a scheme like this which alleviates some of the worry for parents will make a huge difference.’

Lidl toy banks will be accepting donations from November 3 until December 16, when the toys will be collected for distribution.
