LGBT Afghans hide from the Taliban in Kabul: ‘I don’t want them to kill me like they killed my boyfriend’

The i says the zoom call opens to a black screen. A soft, low voice comes through. The person at the other end (we will call him Aziz) is in Afghanistan. His video camera is turned off, he explains, because it isn’t safe for him to be seen. Not unless he escapes first.

Aziz is sitting in the home he shares with his paents and siblings, just five minutes from Kabul airport.

“I can see the Taliban from my window,” he tells me.
