Daily Express – Labour is doing nothing to stop the boats
The Daily Express quotes senior Tory James Cleverly as saying Sir Keir Starmer must “get a grip – and fast” or the Channel migrant crisis will escalate. His words come after more than 700 people crossed the channel in a single day. The former home secretary accused PM Starmer of “doing nothing” to “stop the boats” but No 10 insists it is working to “smash the gangs responsible.”
Elsewhere, the front page leads on a report that doctors had warned that the Nottingham killer Valdo Calocanes was capable of killing three years before the savage attack.
The Team GB diver Tom Daley has confirmed he is stepping away from the Olympic stage despite winning a silver medal at Paris 2024.
Keir Starmer accused of ‘pouring petrol’ on Channel migrant crisis as James Cleverly rages
Sir Keir Starmer must “get a grip” of the Channel migrant crisis or it will get even worse, James Cleverly has declared.
The former Home Secretary said the Labour Prime Minister “ditched” the Rwanda deportation plan even though the National Crime Agency believed it was a “deterrent”.
More than 700 migrants crossed on 11 boats on Sunday – the highest number of daily arrivals since Sir Keir moved into Downing Street.
Two people also died in French waters while trying to cross the Channel, with others on board the boat understood to have been rescued and taken back to France.
Mum of Nottingham attack victim warns: ‘There are more Valdo Calocanes out there’
The mother of a teenager brutally stabbed to death by Valdo Calocane during a rampage in Nottingham last year has warned there are other potential killers living in the community.
Friends Barnaby Webber, 19, and Grace O’Malley Kumar, both students at Nottingham University, and Ian Coates, 65, were all killed by Calocane on June 13, 2023.
32-year-old Valdo Calocane was handed an indefinite hospital order in January after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Emma Webber, mother of Barnaby Webber, said she blamed a “catalogue of failures” before her son’s death.
She told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “It’s really hard to actually pinpoint one particular point, because the failings are so systemic and they’re so gross – it’s a catalogue of continual failures for years.
Tom Daley announces retirement in emotional statement days after Olympic success
Tom Daley has announced his retirement from diving at the age of 30 following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Team GB athlete won a silver medal in Paris with his 10m diving partner Noah Williams after being convinced to return for one final tournament on the global stage.
But Daley has confirmed he will not participating in the next Games in Los Angeles in 2028 after announcing his plans to step away from professional sport.
Announcing his decision in a statement, Daley admitted he already knew he was going to retire from diving before he took part in the men’s 10m synchronised platform event alongside Williams.
