Kim Kardashian’s jaw-dropping Met Gala gown was made from more than 66,000 pearls, with the star seemingly throwing it back to her 2007 nude shoot for Playboy where she was similarly adorned.
The 42-year-old star made her 10th appearance at the Met Gala on Monday night as she stepped out in an extravagant custom Schiaparelli haute couture dress by Daniel Roseberry.
The skirt and top, which saw her draped in strand after strand of pearls, covering her chest and legs down to the ankle, took 12 artisans a staggering 1,000 hours to make and were made from over 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls.
The dress also featured a champagne-coloured built in bra and bodysuit, with the law student and Skins mogul accessorising with a multi-layered diamond choker, white strappy heels and a dramatic cream floor-length coat with train worn off her shoulders.
She opted to wear her hair piled up in a an elaborate up-do, with loose strands left framing her face, alongside smoky eye make-up and bronzed nude lipstick.
However, fans were struck by the resemblance in her outfit to her Playboy shoot 16 years ago, where she posed in nothing but strands of pearls around her neck, chest and arms, and a pair of black heels.

The shoot also took on a life of its own thanks to the meme-ification of her mum Kris Jenner, who supervised the photo session and called out the now-iconic phrase of support: ‘You’re doing amazing, sweetie!’
‘Remember Kim Kardashian’s Playboy 2007 ‘The Pearls of Aphrodite’ inspired look on that shoot? Is this not reminding anyone of that? She looks good though,’ tweeted one fan.
‘Kim Kardashian is doing an homage to her Playboy photoshoot,’ added another.
However, others weren’t happy with the move, given the theme of this year’s event was paying tribute to late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld.

‘Kim Kardashian’s look referenced her playboy shoot more than Karl,’ observed one person.
‘Is kim kardashian wearing her playboy pearls to the met?’ asked another.
Reflecting on her way of paying tribute to late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, Kim told Vogue: ‘I wanted pearls.
‘I thought, “What is more Karl?” You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls.’
However, she had a bit of a mishap on her way to the glitzy event in New York City as her daughter North, nine, had to pick up some rogue pearls.

She added: ‘Some popped on the way, and I told my daughter to grab them all. They’re real pearls and she was putting them all in her purse.’
Although North didn’t join her famous mum on the red carpet, she did ride with her in the car.
Kim had teased her Met Gala style earlier this week when she hung out with Lagerfeld’s famous cat Choupette, which she admitted was ‘a little scary’.
She said: ‘It takes a little while to warm up to her. She wrote me a sweet note and left it in my room. We spent some time together before this.’

Meanwhile, the reality star insisted there wasn’t any ‘pressure’ for her to outdo last year’s Gala outfit when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s legendary ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ dress.
‘This year, I just wanted to feel glamorous. I really didn’t feel the pressure. I just wanted to have a good time,’ she explained.
