Sir Keir Starmer vows to get a ‘grip’ on surge pricing after Oasis tickets fiasco
Sir Keir Starmer has waded into the controversy of surge pricing following a furor among fans who were hit with inflated prices for Oasis reunion tour tickets.
In the wake of supporters expressing disbelief as standard ticket prices soared from £148 to a staggering £355 on Ticketmaster, due to sky-high demand, the Culture Secretary has vowed to probe into the practices of dynamic pricing during the impending Government review of the secondary gig sales market.
The Prime Minister addressed public concerns this Monday in a conversation with Matt Chorley on BBC Radio 5 Live, pointing out: “This is really important, because this isn’t just an Oasis problem.”
He added: “This is a problem for tickets for all sorts of events, where people go online straight away, as soon as they can, and within seconds sometimes, sometimes minutes, all the tickets are gone, and the prices start going through the roof, which means many people can’t afford it You have to stop that. We’re consulting on that.”
Sam Fox told cop ‘I know where you live’ and threatened to knock his teeth out, court told
Samantha Fox threatened to knock a police officer’s teeth out after a drunken incident on a British Airways flight, a court has heard.
The former glamour model, 58, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to being drunk and disorderly at the airport. She also admitted using threatening behaviour, causing harassment, alarm or distress to a police constable during the incident in December last year.
It had stopped the London to Hamburg flight from taking off. Julianna Belinfante, prosecuting, said flight staff were made aware that Fox was “having an argument and being rude towards the gate staff” at 7pm and was seen “walking and behaving strangely and was slurring her words, and staff could smell alcohol on her”.
Fox began “behaving in a confrontational manner” towards her wife, Linda Olsen, and after the former model began “rocking back and forth in her chair, headbutting the seat in front of her” the decision was made to return the plane to the gate, the court heard. The police were called to remove the pop singer from the plane and one officer said it was “clear to him that she was drunk”.
