Katy Perry was booed for the very first time on American Idol, after critiquing Nutsa Buzaladze’s sparkly performance.
The Firework singer left the audience severely unimpressed when she took aim at the music hopeful, 25, on last night’s show, suggesting that she should tone down her next stint on stage.
Bidding to continue on in the competition, Nutsa belted out a cover of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals’ classic, Paris (Ooh La La), for the judging panel – also made up of Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Although Katy, 38, enjoyed the scenes, she noted that she would like to see less theatrics on stage from the contestant’s next performance.
‘Nutsa, every time you take the stage, it’s like you glitter bomb the stage,’ she said, via Entertainment Tonight.
‘Listen, I think one thing I personally would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that’s going to be hard.’

The crowd audibly booed after the comments, with Lionel reportedly joking about his fellow judge’s ‘hostility’.
Luke was said to be thrilled by the reception, chanting: ‘Yes! Katy got booed. Katy got booed.’
‘Okay, first time in six seasons, woo hoo,’ Katy replied. ‘But what I’m saying is that, I’d like you to flip the script.
‘I think we want to be pulled in by our hearts too. I’d love to see that, and I think America might too.’

Katy and Nutsa have had a rollercoaster time on the current season of American Idol, after the contestant had a bust up with fellow hopeful Carina DeAngelo during rehearsals for their duet performance, earlier in the competition.
It emerged that Nutsa had decided to go to bed while Carina wanted to keep rehearsing, leaving her worried that they weren’t prepared enough for the performance.
When the drama spilled out in front of the judges, the Grammy-winner urged Nutsa to ‘have more grace’.

In a subsequent episode, she met with the panel to offer her side of the story, tearfully explaining: ‘I felt so bad I was frozen. I didn’t want to bring negative energy so that’s why I didn’t say nothing.
‘I didn’t speak up because I didn’t want to cry on stage. But after I left the stage, I was just destroyed. So I wanted to apologize for that.’
Katy rushed to give her a hug, adding: ‘That’s so wonderful, and Nutsa, what I meant about grace is that it’s okay to be determined and ambitious and edgy and strong but also with grace.

‘I really relate to you because I know what it means to be a strong woman, to want to be strong and to never break and to never feel like anything can ever get to me, but that’s not real.
‘I think that they’re seeing that you’re a real person with a big heart and a big talent.’
American Idol airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8pm ET on ABC.
