Kate Garraway blinked back tears on Friday’s Good Morning Britain after a special performance from Sam Ryder, having already admitted she could ‘burst into tears’ at any point.
The 56-year-old, who was awarded an MBE earlier this week, joined Ben Shephard on Friday’s edition of the ITV daytime programme, where she revealed she was feeling ’emotional’.
Labour MP Wes Streeting praised her: ‘Kate, it was wonderful to see you at the palace the other day with Derek, honestly, it made my heart burst.
‘You really deserve it, it was lovely to see you there and it was lovely to see Derek celebrating with you.’
He continued: ‘And I know I speak not just for all of Derek’s friends in the Labour Party but right across parliament.
‘If there is one thing that can unite us all, it was just wonderful to see you there. You absolutely deserved it.
‘And to see Derek there smiling and supporting you was just brilliant, absolutely fantastic.’

The moment left Kate emotional, as she said: ‘Well, it’s all a tribute, isn’t it, to the NHS. So we all come back to the same point and it was wonderful to have our brilliant nurse Jake there as well and for the Prince of Wales to acknowledge him.
‘Thank you so much. I’m on a bit of a hair-trigger emotionally this morning Mr Streeting.’
‘I could burst into tears at any point, it’s all caught up with me, but thank you so, so much’ she added.
And she almost did, after Eurovision star Sam played his new song in the studio.

Kate was left wiping tears from her eyes, saying: ‘That has floored me! I’m on a hair-trigger emotionally.
‘The lyrics and that voice! Sam you’ve finished me off.’
This comes after Kate revealed her husband Derek Draper ‘burst into tears’ of pride after she was officially made a Member of the Order of the British Empire at Windsor Castle.
The honour recognises Kate’s services to broadcasting, journalism, and to charity.
During Thursday’s edition of the ITV programme, the TV personality explained what happened behind the scenes, saying: ‘Derek burst into tears’.

‘The lovely thing was Prince William said “how’s Derek?” and I said ‘here’s here!’ So we turned and saw and then obviously Derek was very tearful and then spoke about Jake [Derek’s carer] and gave Jake a wave as well.’
She continued: ‘Prince William said he wanted to go over but he’s not allowed to leave the rug. There’s a very fancy red and gold carpet that he stands on.
‘It was lovely at the castle there were so many people who wanted to shake Derek’s hand and say ‘my father, my husband my brother … what you’ve gone through has given us a lot of hope.
‘Because they are dealing with things from Covid but also other things like cancer which are difficult. So I think he got a huge amount from it as well, which was very very lovely.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
