The Sunday Papers – Kate at 40 & learn to live with Covid
A number of Sunday Papers highlight thinking by some in government and the scientific community that Covid is now a permanent feature of our lives – and we must learn to not only live with it but manage it.
Several papers cover political topics, the Telegraph features an article from Liz Truss who claims that Britain will unilaterally trigger Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol if she cannot reach a “negotiated solution” with the European Union.
And Lord Frost also makes the front splashes after he said the PM must ‘reset his government’ along traditional Conservative lines if he has any hope of being reelected.
Three new images of the Duchess of Cambridge have been released to mark her 40th birthday. Most of Sunday’s front pages feature one of the images.
The Independent – ‘Oil industry to help write rules on new drilling’
Oil and gas firms were invited to help write new rules on drilling just weeks after the prime minister urged countries to stop extracting fossil fuels, writes The Independent. The paper’s main picture is of Novak Djokovic under the headline: ‘Djokovic makes his case for exemption’.
The Observer – ‘End mass jabs and treat Covid like we do flu: ex- vaccine chief’
The Observer reports COVID-19 should be treated as an endemic virus – similar to flu – and ministers should end mass vaccination after the booster campaign according to the UK’s vaccine task force. The paper features an image of David Bowie – on what would have been his 75th birthday as the world pays tribute six years on from his death. The ongoing story involving tennis player Novak Djokovic also features -as the paper says he was pictured maskless at a public event just one day after his positive Covid-19 test.
The Sunday Times – ‘End of free lateral flow tests, country told to live with Covid’
Free lateral flow tests face the axe under a strategy of living with COVID-19 leads The Sunday Times. The paper says the new plan could save billions but there are at least 6 more years of Covid. A story on whether the PM and his wife attended a ‘lockdown booze-up’ and an image of a glum-looking Newcastle United owner feature.
The Sunday Telegraph – ‘Truss: I’ll use article 16 if EU won’t bend’
The Sunday Telegraph reports foreign secretary Liz Truss has insisted Britain will overhaul the post-Brexit agreement on Northern Ireland unilaterally if she cannot reach a “negotiated solution” with the EU.
Sunday Mirror – ‘Danny quits Eastenders’
Danny Dyer has quit EastEnders leaving the BBC show in “crisis”, reports the Sunday Mirror
Mail on Sunday – ‘Be a true Tory Boris, or you’re finished’
The Mail on Sunday leads on an interview with ex-Brexit Minister Lord Frost, who warns the prime minister to “be a true Tory, or you’re finished”. A newly re;leased image of the Duchess of Cambridge features on the front splash – ahead of her 40th birthday!
The Sun on Sunday – ‘My night with Jack Grealish’
England and Manchester City footballer Jack Grealish spent the night with a Towie star at a hideaway villa, reports the Sun on Sunday. The Duchess of Cambridge is also featured on the front page.
Sunday People – ‘Star killer in sick prison taunts’
The Sunday People reports Savannah Brockhill, who was jailed for the murder of toddler Star Hobson, joked in jail that she has “buried three more babies”.
Sunday Express – ‘Priti: It’s time for tougher justice’
The Home Secretary has warned the House of Lords must not water down new police powers, according to the Sunday Express.
