The Sunday Papers – Kate at 40 & learn to live with Covid

A number of Sunday Papers highlight thinking by some in government and the scientific community that Covid is now a permanent feature of our lives – and we must learn to not only live with it but manage it.

Several papers cover political topics, the Telegraph features an article from Liz Truss who claims that Britain will unilaterally trigger Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol if she cannot reach a “negotiated solution” with the European Union.

And Lord Frost also makes the front splashes after he said the PM must ‘reset his government’ along traditional Conservative lines if he has any hope of being reelected.

Three new images of the Duchess of Cambridge have been released to mark her 40th birthday. Most of Sunday’s front pages feature one of the images.

The Independent – ‘Oil industry to help write rules on new drilling’

Oil and gas firms were invited to help write new rules on drilling just weeks after the prime minister urged countries to stop extracting fossil fuels, writes The Independent. The paper’s main picture is of Novak Djokovic under the headline: ‘Djokovic makes his case for exemption’.

The Observer – ‘End mass jabs and treat Covid like we do flu: ex- vaccine chief’

The Observer reports COVID-19 should be treated as an endemic virus – similar to flu – and ministers should end mass vaccination after the booster campaign according to the UK’s vaccine task force. The paper features an image of David Bowie – on what would have been his 75th birthday as the world pays tribute six years on from his death. The ongoing story involving tennis player Novak Djokovic also features  -as the paper says he was pictured maskless at a public event just one day after his positive Covid-19 test.

The Sunday Times – ‘End of free lateral flow tests, country told to live with Covid’

Free lateral flow tests face the axe under a strategy of living with COVID-19 leads The Sunday Times. The paper says the new plan could save billions but there are at least 6 more years of Covid. A story on whether the PM and his wife attended a ‘lockdown booze-up’ and an image of a glum-looking Newcastle United owner feature.
