Kanye West confronted about mental health and being ‘out of control’ amid fresh rant about anti-semitism in Chris Cuomo interview

Kanye West has been asked if he’s been taking care of his mental health after embarking on an endless string of controversial rants in recent weeks.

The Jesus Walks rapper has been locked out of mainstream social media platforms, including Twitter and Instagram, after posting comments deemed to be anti-semitic. It came after he branded Black Lives Matter a ‘scam’, wore a White Lives Matter shirt and repeated claims that his ex-wife Kim Kardashian blocked him from attending their daughter Chicago’s birthday party earlier this year.

Unable to express his thoughts on ‘big tech’ apps, Kanye, 45, announced his plans to buy far-right platform Parler in order to protect free speech.

However, some mainstream media outlets have continued to welcome the musician and his views, including Revolt podcast Drink Champs and now News Nation where he spoke to news anchor Chris Cuomo.

In their wide-ranging interview, Cuomo addressed the speculation surrounding Kanye’s mental health in light of his recent comments – the rapper has been open about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the past.

Cuomo told the Grammy-winning rapper: ‘When I hear how you talk about your personal life and you put things out there and get into these looping thoughts of what you believe, it sounds to me like you are sometimes out of control and that this is something you should be dealing with.

‘Now I’m not excusing your thoughts as illness, people attacked me for that and said, hey, just so you’re concerned about whether Kanye West is taking care of himself emotionally and mentally… you shouldn’t say that he has to be held to account for what he says – both things can be true.’

Cuomo then asked: ‘Have you been taking care of your health? And in terms of making sure you are behaving and thinking at your best.’

Speaking from his car during the late-night interview, Kanye replied: ‘The way you’ve worded it, what you don’t realise is when it runs back, people are going to say, “wow, have you made sure you’re behaving?”’

Cuomo clarified: ‘That’s not what I’m saying. You’re trying to cheapen the point. I’m trying to make sure that you’re healthy and that you’re taking care of your health.’

When Kanye – who now goes by the name Ye – asked if the journalist had worked out that morning, Cuomo replied: ‘No… but I took my medicine. I took my antidepressant medication that I take everyday.’

The Gold Digger rapper skirted around directly answering the question and instead went on to detail his struggles as a Black man.

‘I don’t have to say how much money’s in my account, I don’t have to say who I voted on, I don’t have to say why I changed my name,’ Kanye explained. ‘Life for a Black person in America is like a constant test, even after high school, out of college, we’re always being questioned, “why would you do that?”

‘Do you think I have the right to just vote for Trump? I didn’t even vote for Trump because of the people that were around me.’

Cuomo then informed him: ‘Yes, you have the right.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Kanye doubled down on his stance about the Jewish community and claimed that, when he wore the White Lives Matter shirt, the ‘Jewish underground media mafia already started attacking me’.

‘They just immediately disrespect me. They keep the crazy narrative going. They never call me a billionaire,’ he said.

When Kanye claimed that half of the executives in Hollywood were Jewish, Cuomo challenged him and said: ‘That’s different than saying it’s a mafia and that they act as Jews in some way as opposed to just being businessmen’.

Kanye’s words may have landed him in hot water as the family of George Floyd are said to be considering taking legal action, after the rapper claimed Floyd’s death was drug-related rather than the result of police brutality as was proven in court.
