Joe Biden tests positive for Covid, White House says
Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms, the White House announced. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that the 81-year-old president is vaccinated and boosted. This is his third positive test for COVID.
Biden was seen earlier on Wednesday meeting supporters in Las Vegas and speaking at an event, but he later cancelled a campaign speech. Amid his illness, he faces growing pressure to step aside due to his age.
Reports indicate that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have privately expressed concerns to Biden about the impact of his candidacy on other House and Senate races.
Jean-Pierre stated that the president will isolate at his home in Delaware while continuing to fulfil all his duties. Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, noted that the president has mild upper respiratory symptoms and has started taking Paxlovid.
