US elections: Joe Biden set to win South Carolina Democratic primary

US President Joe Biden is projected to secure victory in South Carolina’s Democratic primary, according to CBS. 

In a triumphant statement, President Biden vowed to make Republican Donald Trump a “loser.” 

This primary marks the first official Democratic party contest leading up to this year’s presidential election. With minimal competition for the Democratic nomination, President Biden is expected to achieve a resounding win in South Carolina. Reflecting on the pivotal role of South Carolina voters in breathing life into his 2020 campaign, the president expressed confidence that their support would propel him towards winning the presidency in 2024. 

Initial figures indicate that Biden is set to win all 55 pledged delegates in the South Carolina primary, securing over 90% of the counted votes. 

Democrats Marianne Williamson and Dean Phillips trailed significantly behind, with preliminary results suggesting they each secured only 2% of the votes.
