President Joe Biden postponed a meeting with the leader of NATO in order to undergo a second procedure that was not planned for a root canal.
Biden on Monday rescheduled his meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to finish a two-day root canal.
He also rescheduled his remarks at the Chiefs of Mission Reception, and canceled hosting College Athlete Day at the White House celebrating the men’s and women’s NCAA Champion teams.
‘The president is doing just fine and he will be certainly working in the residence this afternoon,’ said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after Biden’s procedure.

Biden began experiencing a toothache on Sunday and had an X-ray. He had a root canal done at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center the same day, according to a letter from his physician Kevin O’Connor.
He ‘tolerated the procedure well’ and had ‘no complications’, stated O’Connor.
However, Biden felt more pain on Monday. He received local anesthesia and did not need to temporarily transfer his presidential powers to Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris hosted College Athlete Day in place of Biden.
Biden’s unplanned root canal comes about a month after a report that his aides say he eats ‘like a child’ and loves carbs. His favorite foods include pizza, spaghetti with butter and red sauce, BLT sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies and ice cream, his current and former aides told Axios in May.

First Lady Jill Biden has reportedly been pushing him to eat more vegetables and fish as he seeks reelection. He is the country’s oldest president and his age, 80, is an ongoing matter of concern among some as he makes a bid for a second term.
His meeting with Stoltenberg as well as a reception for diplomatic figures has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
Stoltenberg is expected to resign from his post at the end of September after serving for nine years. The US is heading the search for his replacement. Biden has not publicly disclosed his pick for the position.
