US President Joe Biden got a few laughs after telling a weird joke about Eva Longoria… but probably made everyone else’s skin crawl at a White House screening of her directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot.
Biden, 80, the 46th President, was on stage with the Desperate Housewives star for the event launching her movie.
The film tells the story of Richard Montañez, who claimed to have invented a spicy version of American snack Cheetos, although his claims were debunked by US media.
Nevertheless, Eva continued to adapt the Cheetos employee’s memoir into Flamin’ Hot, and introduced the film to the world at the screening on Thursday.
The President walked out onto the South Lawn with Eva, 48, and his wife, Lady Jill Biden, 72, the three of them hand in hand, before giving an introductory speech.
During the speech, Biden referenced his long-running friendship with Eva, saying: ‘We’ve known each other a long time. She was 17 and I was 40.’
The joke drew laughter from the crowd that had joined Eva and the President at the screening of her new film, but creeped out a few folks watching on.
As well as describing the joke as ‘creepy’ and ‘inappropriate, others commenting on the incident felt the joke was unsuitable and ‘strange’.
In addition, many of those watching video clips of the incident realised that the President’s mathematical equations were also off by a decade.

Eva was born in March 1975, which would have made Biden 50 years old on her 17th birthday. He would have been 40 on her seventh birthday instead. Oops.
As for Flamin’ Hot, many commentators have pointed out that Montañez’s Cheeto claims were investigated by the LA Times, which cast doubt over them.
Biden continued, addressing the thousand-strong audience who had come to the White House directly: ‘When I think about tonight’s movie, I think about courage.’

He added: ‘So many of your ancestors left behind all that they knew to start a new life in the United States.’
On Thursday, Eva confessed that Desperate Housewives, on which she became famous for playing main character Gabrielle, wouldn’t be made today.
‘I don’t know if we could do the show today. I think we’d get cancelled. We said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.’
