Joe Biden backs Nato’s ‘sacred’ mission after Donald Trump called alliance ‘obselete’
The i says Joe Biden on Monday delivered a powerful message of support for Nato as the cornerstone of Western security, telling fellow leaders at a summit in Brussels that the United States had a “sacred obligation” to its allies.
Mr Biden was keen to reassure Nato after the tumultuous presidency of his predecessor Donald Trump, who openly suggested the US could pull out of the 30-nation alliance, calling it “obsolete”, and branded some members “delinquent” because they did not spend enough of their budgets on defence.
