Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic will be ‘very, very angry’ with not keeping a clean sheet in the Carabao Cup thrashing of Middlesbrough.

After losing 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final at the Riverside, the Blues put six past Michael Carrick’s side on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer scored twice with Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi and Noni Madueke also on the scoresheet after an own goal from Jonny Howson started the route.

Boro rewarded their superb travelling support with a late consolation goal with Morgan Rogers curling home a fine strike from the edge of the box with two minutes of the match remaining.

Chelsea now have a date at Wembley to look forward to next month where they will take on Liverpool or Fulham – with the Reds leading that semi-final 2-1 ahead of the second leg in west London on Wednesday.

While it was a superb night for Chelsea in what has been another turbulent season, former Blues and Boro striker Hasselbaink believes that late goal from the visitors side will have frustrated Chelsea goalkeeper Petrovic.

The Dutchman also insisted Chelsea need to start rediscovering the habit of keeping clean sheets, even in games where they have taken a huge lead like tonight.

‘Having my managers hat on, it is important to keep a clean sheet,’ Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.

‘I bet you that the goalkeeper is going to be very, very angry he got a goal against him.

‘But not a lot of games you are going to be 6-0 up. you might be 1-0 up, it has to become a habit that you keep clean sheets and that is why I ask that question.

‘If it breeds through your team, clean sheets, clean sheets, you are going to be successful.’

Chelsea face a quick turnaround with Mauricio Pochettino’s side taking on Aston Villa in their FA Cup fourth round clash back at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.

The Blues eased to a 6-1 win but was everyone happy?
