Jeremy Vine was left stunned when a rude caller interrupted his live show.

The presenter, 58, was fronting his Channel 5 programme on Friday when an explicit comment could just about be heard in the studio.

‘Bob’ from Glasgow rung in to offer a comment about whether Rishi Sunak could win the next general election over Sir Keir Starmer.

‘Let’s go to Bob in Glasgow. Bob, do you think Rishi Sunak can win it?’ Vine began.

But he didn’t quite get the response he was hoping for.

After a brief silence, the caller shouted at: ‘F**k the Pope and the IRA!’

The call was immediately cut off, while Vine was left wondering what had just been said.

‘No idea what that is,’ he said, after a stunned moment.

‘If there was any bad language in that we apologise,’ he added.

‘Joking apart, we do everything we can to avoid any bad language on the programme, and we know it offends some viewers and it’s rude to everyone when a caller can’t control their language.

‘So please, the gentleman who rang just then, please don’t call again.’

Vine later took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update, saying he still had no idea what exactly was said.

‘I’ve now listened to this 20 times and I still can’t make out a single word of what this character was trying to say,’ he wrote, after the clip was shared on social media.

And he wasn’t the only one.

‘What he say Need google translate for this one,’ X user @MoonParis21 wrote.

‘Other than a vague resemblance of an expletive,’ user @dshensmith added.

Meanwhile, viewer @thommo805 praised Vine’s ‘great work on live tv’ as he addressed the explicit moment.

Jeremy Vine on 5 airs from 9.15am on Channel 5.
