James Maddison says he would ‘love’ Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham and says the England striker is the ‘best’ forward in the world.

The 30-year-old is in talks with Bayern Munich over a move to the Bundesliga giants.

Kane has entered the final year of his contract at Tottenham and has indicated he will leave the club for free next summer, should they stop him from leaving this time around.

That’s a dilemma for Spurs, who could fetch up to £100m for the Englishman.

Maddison is Spurs’ standout arrival so far this summer and he signed believing that Kane would remain at the club.

The pair are friends off the pitch and Maddison admits he’s desperate for Kane to stay in north London.

We were friends before I joined Tottenham from the England squad, we have similar interests and get on well anyway away from football,’ said Maddison.

‘I would love Harry Kane to stay, he’s the best No 9 in the world in my opinion. But what will be will be and Harry is super professional.

‘It hasn’t been a distraction as Harry is super professional.

‘I won’t go into details because I don’t know anything and let’s be respectful about Harry’s situation.

‘Everyone knows what Harry Kane is like, he’s a super professional guy and whatever club he is at, whenever he goes into training he gives 100 per cent and it’s the same as all the lads so not [a distraction] at all really.’
