Dominic Cummings: ‘Tens of thousands of people died who didn’t need to die’

The Daily Mirror’s front page is covered with a picture of PM Boris Johnson with his head bowed, with the headline ‘‘Tens of thousands of people died who didn’t need to die’, picking up on Dominic Cummings claims on government failures in handling the pandemic.

The front page says “Johnson’s shame” and adds the prime minister is “in crisis” after the “explosive claims.”

The Mirror predicts the “mesmerising” account will be “deeply damaging”. Its political editor points out that, in the end, it’s “not the excuses, the blame-shifting, the settling of scores, or the clashes of egos” that matter the most – it’s finding out who’s responsible for the “unforgivably high” number of deaths.
