Italy: Police investigate alleged abduction of six-year-old boy who survived cable car crash

The i says authorities in Italy have launched an investigation into the alleged abduction of a six-year-old boy who was taken to Israel by his maternal grandfather after his immediate family died in a cable car crash.

Eitan Biran was the only survivor of the accident, which killed 14 people including his parents and his younger sibling when the vehicle plunged to the ground near Lake Maggiore in the north of the country.

Since then, he has found himself in the centre of an escalating family feud. His relatives in Italy claim that he was flown to Israel without their permission after he was released from a Turin hospital where he was treated for serious injuries following the crash.
