The Guardian – Israelis Suspended Between Fear, Grief and Foreboding

The Guardian leads with an eyewitness piece which describes normal life in Israel as “on hold”. Civilians are bracing themselves for more losses as the country expects to mount an operation against Hamas.

One woman describes how her son and daughter, aged 10 and six, do not want to shower because the air raid sirens give only a 90-second warning to reach a shelter, and they fear they might not make it in time.

The front page also reports that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has formed a ‘war cabinet’ – an emergency wartime government.
