Israeli opposition strike coalition deal, hopes to see Netanyahu out after 12-years as PM
Israel’s opposition leaders announced on Wednesday that they have reached a deal to form a new, coalition government. The move paves the way to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The announcement by opposition leader Yair Lapid and main coalition partner, Naftali Bennett, came just before a midnight deadline and prevented what could have been Israel’s fifth election in just over two years.
Netanyahu, who has served as PM for 12 years, is desperate to remain in office while he fights corruption charges, and is expected to do all that is possible to prevent the coalition from taking power.
