The story features on many of the broadsheets – and online – although it does not dominate every front page or website.

    Trending – Israel invades Lebanon

The biggest trending story in the UK this morning – online and in print – is about the ongoing ground invasion of Lebanon.

Many of the newspaper front pages went to print before the invasion began so the newspaper headlines reflect speculation of the ground incursion, Israeli PM Netanyahu’s warning to Iran and what it will mean going forward.

On media websites and social media, there are live updates as the story continues to develop more information comes to light – and debates emerge.

    Basic facts

    • Israel has launched a ground invasion in southern Lebanon
    • IDF says operation is “limited, localised and targeted” against Hezbollah
    • Israeli airstrikes continue as the ground offensive starts
    • Hezbollah says it is ready to defend its borders from the Israeli invasion
    • Israeli airstrikes in Gaza are continuing

    The reaction

The UK newspaper coverage is somewhat out of date due to the situation being fast-moving. The papers are divided in what they give coverage to this morning  – many of the tabloids chose to report on showbiz news whilst the broadsheets (and a handful of tabloids) cover the Middle East.

The papers use phrases such as “Israeli invasion” and “Israeli ground assault”. Several of the papers pick up on Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s warning to Iran, whilst others highlight Israel’s claim that the ground invasion will be ‘limited’.

Online, as the situation develops, stories of those from the ground are emerging along with scenes of devastation.

There is more coverage of the US sending thousands more troops to the region.

There is also coverage and debate over the very human cost of this invasion and Israel’s war on three fronts as stories such as a Palestinian refugee camp being hit by Israeli airstrikes overnight emerge.

Israel’s ground invasion of #Lebanon has commenced

If there was even a drop of consistency & integrity amongst Western political leaders they would now be sending billions in aid to the Lebanese resistance, as they did with Ukraine

    They won’t.

This is completely laughable. The White House opposed Israel's strategy to escalate against Hezbollah at every single opportunity. All the way until the moment Nasrallah met his demise. It's all documented. Now they want the credit for secretly backing it? https://t.co/AxN02cqUvA
