Israel Gaza war: Gaza death toll passes 10,000

More than 10,000 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel began bombing the Strip last month, according to the health ministry.

More than 4,000 of those killed were children, the Hamas-run ministry added.

The number surpasses the UN’s figure of about 5,400 killed in Gaza in all of Israel’s previous conflicts with Hamas since it took control of the territory in 2007.

Israel began bombing Gaza following the Hamas attacks which killed 1,400 people and kidnapped more than 200 others on 7 October.

Israel claims it has destroyed Hamas’s infrastructure and is killing Hamas fighters so it will no longer pose a threat to Israel.

Joe Biden cast doubt on the figures released by Hamas whilst the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that “any information provided by a terrorist organisation should be viewed with caution”.
