Is PMQs on today? – PM Rishi Sunak faces Keir Starmer
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will face Sir Keir Starmer in the Commons for Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs).
Today’s PMQs will likely be dominated by the Home Secretary’s announcements to curb migration after shocking figures were released. The government has signed a new Rwanda deal that addresses the concerns raised by the UK’s Supreme Court – which rejected the plans as unlawful.
On Monday, James Cleverly laid out out a five-point plan to tackle legal and illegal migration – including hiking the minimum income needed for family visas to £38,700.
He also signed a new treaty with Rwanda, which the government says will ensure asylum seekers sent there are not returned to a country where their life is threatened. It was one of the Supreme Court’s main objections to the original plan last month.
Immigration is likely to be a key issue ahead of the next general election, expected to be in 2024.
Labour wasn’t a fan of Cleverly’s announcement, saying it was “an admission of years of Tory failure”, but Conservative MPs have largely welcomed the measures.
When is the next PMQs?
PMQs starts at its usual time of noon on Wednesday and will last around 30 minutes.
You can watch PMQs live on the UK Parliament YouTube channel.
